CAF Airpower Museum Offers Leather Care Workshop
On April 23, 2010, the CAF Airpower Museum, Midland, will present a workshop on Caring for Historical Leather. Join Catherine Williams from Silver Lining Art Care at this all-day hands-on session covering identification and care of leather, identifying different skins, tanning processes and how they affect leather, leather deterioration, proper storage techniques and how to recognize and deal with common issues such as copper corrosion and mold blooms. The workshop is from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the museum's conservation lab. Space is limited to 20 people. Fee is $75 and includes a catered lunch and informational packets. Participants are invited to bring a leather object from their collection to discuss. A 50% discount is offered to members of CAF Airpower Museum, CAF, American Association of Museums, Texas Association of Museums and Permian Basin Museum Association.
