p.110 Mary Maverick in San Antonio, to son Willie, February 11, 1864
I found 2 bags of marbles in the storeroom & Willie Prescott counted them--there was 220. He said there ought to be over 300 & told me to ask you if there was not another bag. He brought Nugy Beck to choose for you & he for himself & divided them even, except the china ones which they drew for, & W. P. got most. He said Mary might take the big green glass one. She took it & Sammie cried so much for it that she had to let him take it home with him & he has not sent it back yet. W. P. got 112 & Nugy 107. They picked out the ones you wanted & I have them & the vial & gum ready to send you whenever I get a chance.
