The Gonzales Memorial Museum will host a major history symposium on Saturday, January 15, 2011, called Texas: The Big Picture. The symposium features prominent Texas historians from academic programs throughout the state. Topics range from early settlement to the republic and statehood, then from the age of oil through the civil rights era and into contemporary Texas. Speakers include Frank de la Teja, Dwight Watson, and Joaquin Rivaya-Martinez from Texas State University; Stephen L. Hardin from McMurry University; Rebecca Kosary from Texas Lutheran University; and Frank Cox from the Center for American History, University of Texas. Participants also will help plan new exhibits and learning activities for the youth of Texas. This program is funded with support from Humanities Texas. Reservations at info@gonzalesmemorialmuseum.com
