From the Maverick letters

p.72 Mary Maverick, in San Antonio, to son Lewis, September 27, 1863
We had expected to have the governor with us, but learned that Col Wilcox had already written to invite him there. So he sat up all night--sent for mint & had a julep ready, but Tom Howard had been faster than him & Lubbock went there.
