I tried to read Plantation Life in Texas by Elizabeth Silverthorne. I'm not sure I can really recommend it. It didn't seem that she provided much verification for her claims and there was a lot of always and never and other generalizations. I only made it through about half way. Her bibliography appears impressive and I will probably search out some of these sources, but she lists "Love is a Wild Assault", isn't that a work of fiction? I think I've read another work that listing that as a source; is this a legitimate resource?

Anyway, has anyone else read this book? Any other thoughts?

Annette,

I have read this book. the basic information about Leonard Groce et al is pretty good, but I have some real doubts about her information on daily life. A lot of it does seem unsupported, and often questionable as far as I am concerned. Too much like the 'Good Ole South' in some ways.
