Houston Weekly Telegraph, June 16, 1858, p. 1
We hear that Cyrus Jones, and a man named McCormick, had a personal difficulty at Round Top, which resulted in the death of Jones.
The circumstances as related to us are that a quarrel took place
between them, when Jones stooped for the purpose of picking up a brick, whereupon McCormick struck Jones with a stick breaking his neck.
McCormick mounted a horse and fled. A warrant was issued for his
arrest and parties started in pursuit. On coming up with him, about a mile from Round Top, they ordered him to stop; he persisted in trying to escape, when his pursuers fired two shots, one ahead and the other behind him; another of the party attempted to kill his horse, but, as all the aprties was at full speed, the shot took effect on McCormick and killed him instantaneously.
We learn it was not the intention to kill McCormick, that the two first shots were fired as we have stated and the attempt to disable the horse.
