Hal Simon provided these great 1850 dags of the Millers of Dallas. Most of the cases were from New Orleans studios. Both their homes are on the grounds of Dallas Heritage Village; you can see a picture at http://www.dallasheritagevillage.org/MillerLogHouse.aspx and the later house at http://www.dallasheritagevillage.org/MillermoreHouse.aspx
They did not move into Millermore, the big white antebellum house, until early in 1861, but which time Minerva Miller had died. That would mean these pictures were taken while they were living in the smaller original house.
On the 1850 census he is listed as owning four slaves, and by the 1860 census that number had risen to thirteen slaves. Both census records list Mr. Miller’s profession as ‘farmer’...
